10 Things for Friday

1. This ran in the IndyStar yesterday regarding artwork on beer bottles/cans, and even better, about three Indiana breweries’ artwork (Sun King, New Albanian, Three Floyd’s)

2. I wish I had known about these when I was in Paris

3. On falling in love, from Steinbeck

4. UGH. I’m so disappointed “I hate fancy beer…” was featured on the “Good Men Project”

5. Such an interesting and informative bit about professional nosing/tasting of whisky (via It’s Just the Booze Dancing)

6. “Scientific proof” that women hate beards? Bull.

7. In case you’ve done the impossible, and have some thin mints leftover, My Baking Addiction has a creative recipe for you.

8. Troegs Beertography contest! Some seriously pretty pictures

9. You know you want to make these Irish Coffee Blondies on Saturday

10. This made me smile…photographing NYC subway riders reading

(My picture today wasn’t technically beer/baking related, but we’ve been
having fantastic mornings in Indiana lately. Simply breathtaking.)

    Yo B&B!

Here I go again. Two things…

#1 – Great list! Love the photo links, particularly Beertography, for purely selfish reasons of course. And the subway and bar photos are just super lovely.

#2 – Thanks for the mention and link back! You made my morning.

    TGIMFF!

    Cheers!

It makes me endlessly happy to hear that anything on here (or my desserts) makes someone’s morning/day/etc. I have been loving those Balvenie videos!

If something is specifically featured on another site and I can remember that source, I sincerely try to give the “via,” credit. Sometimes though, I find these combing through one blog linked to another blog bla bla bla, and can’t for the life of me remember where it came from.

  2. That GMP post is weird. Like, part of me thinks he’s trying to be funny, like satirical, but he’s just not pulling it off. There’s some evidence of that in his responses to the comments section, but really, the source article just isn’t well enough written to connote that. Like, even after reading some of the author’s comment responses, I still can’t tell. It’s strange.

    • Found this response from Patrick on a Kegworks post:

“I exaggerated my opinion for humor’s sake and probably didn’t spend enough time sanding the rough edges on the piece – namely, my finger-in-the-eye tone. It seems to have made some people very angry. It certainly wasn’t meant in any personal way. As I wrote, my friends say pretty much what all the commenters say. Only they’re nicer about it.

I’m not sorry for the piece; I prefer beer that connoisseurs find repugnant. And windbags who make beer sacred are worthy of good-natured teasing. If my teasing came off less than good-natured, the error is mine.”

So yeah, looks like he was trying to be hyperbolic and such, but he just didn’t quite pull it off.

Thanks for finding that! Yes, that was definitely a case where his “teasing” flopped, and where his writing didn’t go far enough to convey his sarcasm.

One of my pet peeves is when bloggers/writers/whoever writes something like this and then says “it wasn’t personal.” To me, that’s like telling someone “you’re so boring…just kidding!” and being offended when said person does take it personally.
